Hope your new year has started out well. We had a really great year and a lot to be thankful for. 2011 was very good to us. It amazes us that our little music endeavor gets a little bigger each year. Thanks to all our new and good friends we met this year. Thanks Lee for putting out our tape. Brandi, Lindsay, Kyle and Tim of The Diamond center much thanks for some guidance and for playing with us. Hope we can play more shows together. A very special thank you to Miss Fuzzy Logic. Your friendship and kind words are very close to our hearts. Ryan Muldoon and Revolt of the Apes, thanks so much for the very kind words. We hope to travel more again this year and maybe we can pay a visit to our left coast friends. We are always trying to expand our community of friends. In this spirit we hope to be invited to this year's Austin Psych Fest, so please let them know that you would love to see us there.
You are probably wondering what the picture above is. It is an early version of our new 10" cover art that will be coming out in the next few months. Yeah, that's right. Holiday Fun and New Year

Headed over to Tate Eskew's. for some recording right before the Xmas Holidays. Should be a good time. Tate has a nice little set up out in the woods. Console pictured above is his. Pretty excited about getting some new sounds down. We are hoping to walk away with some songs and just maybe we can have us a new 7" in the new year. It would definitely be a good thing. Had us a great show over at Dino's. Dead Farmers just plain ruled. Despite not hearing vocals. We felt the need to turn down, so vocals could be heard. Have us a nice little tape review over at Eggy Records. Apparently they got a few copies from No Kings. Here is the review:
Ripper of a tape from a duo from Nashville. I know the "Live at..." thing is always a turnoff but honestly I don't think you'd be able to tell it if it weren't in the name. The recordings are way blasted for sure but the mix is right and the energy combustible. Ttotals play a style of revved up psych; the vocals are an echo-ed out wash but the guitar is raw and relentless, and the drums thunder away behind, never dropping below an energy-level I would call "amped." Short and sweet at four four-ish minute jammers, reminds me of some of the psych leaning tapes in the last Night-People batch, I'm thinking Daughters of the Sun and Lantern. Cool stuff.

We learned on the drive in that we should avoid driving in Manhattan like the fucking plague. So we decided to head out on the BQE and ignore the English Lady's taunts and recalculating of exits. We soon turned her off and were now headed to Philadelphia for our last show of the week. We got there in plenty of time. To the detriment of Marty. Who hates to sit around. If he had it his way he would be helicoptered in just to play the show and then be whisked away after to play video games and have his balls washed by his own personal ball washer. Anyway... Great show! We got to see our friends Nick and Joesph from Far-Out Fangtooth. Who have a record just newly released by Siltbreeze. Gave Nick a big hug. It was good to see a few familiar faces. We smoked the place with our sounds,not to toot our own horns, just telling the truth. We were soon eating tacos and getting ready for the long trek home. Thanks Little Bar for having us. Sorry we couldn't stay and hangout. We hope to be back very soon.

NYC and the English Lady

Had a great week out on the road. D.C. STPP fest was quite killer with a ton of great bands. Thanks to Megan/Fuzzy Logic for asking us to play. Hugs and smooches girl until we meet next time. We made nice with some new friends and played a great back to back set with Diamond Center. We will be playing again with those folks and Willie T next week at Springwater on October 19th. Death By Audio was another great show too. Pics above of the event were taken by our good friend Andy Alexander. When we first got to New York after going through, I don't know how many, toll booths. Our English Lady and GPS took us on a trek around Manhattan. First through the Holland Tunnel and then over into Manhattan and then the East Village. Navigating New York was a challenge. The challenge was excepted and was then conquered. Soon we parked the van by MOMA PS1 and were walking around and full of pizza. We also got to hang out on the roof where we were staying and took in all the city. It was quite beautiful. Thanks everyone for having us and helping our days in D.C. and New York very enjoyable.

Had us a fine BBQ and going away party for our Lil' Brother Tim the other night at Noa Noa House. Ben Spinks Supermelt killed and Solstices peeled some skulls back. It was a fine goodbye for our Little Brother. We will miss you, but we know you have moved on to finer things. Have a fine time in Charlottesville and we will see you soon.
On the horizon for us are a few things. One being a show on September 9th at the Springwater with the fine lads in Horsehair Everywhere, new comrads Y/y from NYC and a 84001 side project called Triplefin. Just getting back to normal this weekend after being out for a week. It's back to soul crushing day jobs that, at least for myself, we want to walk out on and never come back. I feel as if a little bit of me is ground away every afternoon when I leave. Why do places have to be this way? Not to be a total Debbie Downer. We had such a good time in NOVA, aka Northern Virginia, that we expect to be back very soon. Special thanks goes out to our "bro", his term not mine, Scott Sanders for hanging out and schlepping equipment for us. Bummer man, never got that burrito.

Been doing some record shopping while we've been on the road. We went down to Norfolk to Skinnies. A little metal slant, but way cool. Steve was so nice and hooked us up with a sweet place for dinner. Steve if you read this; two thumbs up on Tanner's. So good. We would highly recommend both places if you ever find yourselves in Norfolk. Show in Richmond tomorrow night, so we hope to see all our Richmond friends there. We had such a great time when we were there last, well that was with Haints, but still a great time. Also you can get our 12" and tape at Plan 9, so go buy it if you don't get one from us tomorrow night.

Show in D.C. was really great. Had a blast at Velvet Lounge and hanging at Smash Records, a killer place for hardcore records, before the show. Megan from Fuzzy Logic came to hangout with us too. We both are gonna give Megan a huge hug the next we see her. Hope she will make our show in Richmond on Saturday. Drinks are on us if she does.

Have not found a Wifi connection until now. We are on some internet withdrawl and barely hanging on. Jesus, how did we live without this shit... We found this weird and kinda cryptic message in a book at a restaurant the other morning. Something along the lines of "I met my mother in 1958 and had to be convinced she was not my sister", wow, was it a case of teen pregnancy? Or was it the ramblings of a drunken and hopped up glue freak? We guess; the truth will never be known. Also we stayed in this crazy Days Inn when we passed through Bristol. People living out of it and acting really creepy. It was a family of about twenty people. Not kidding. It was a crazy scene. We were loading up the van and almost got caught up in the melee the next morning. We had to pass through them several times. All of them still in their pajamas and getting in little spats on the sidewalk outside of their 4 adjoining rooms.
Right now we are in Williamsburg. Staying with some friends, eating BBQ and hanging out by the pool. Soooooo nice! Stay tuned for some record finds and pics of our show in D.C. tomorrow night.

Creepoid show fell through. We just couldn't get it together quick enough to make it happen, oh well, they will be back through soon enough.
We did, however, have a show fall into out laps. Its with The Fungi Girls, from the Lone Star state, and Bakesale, from Memphis. Should be a great all around show. WOW! What a year we've had. We touched both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts this year, put out a few releases, all in different formats, spread our sounds and expanded our friendships everywhere we went. We have one last show this year. It's going to be on New Year's Eve-Eve. December 30th at Betty's with Horsehair Everywhere, Wren Schofield and Voyager(from Minneapolis, Minnesota). Hope everyone can make it out and have a last one with us. We are planning so much for 2011. We guess we need to pack as much in before the world comes to an end in 2012. We had a great time in Jacksonville, FL. Emily and Sterling were sooooo good to us. Underbelly is this little speakeasy and courtyard in the back of a boutique called Anomaly. Emily runs Anomaly and along with her friend Sterling they run Underbelly. It is a really fantastic space and they treated us very well. They asked us back and we will be going back for sure. Thanks you guys. It was wonderful.

Marty and I are sitting in a Best Western outside Atlanta right now. We can honestly say the show in Chattanooga sucked! The local band never showed and we played really great, even a couple of new songs, to about 5 people who wandered in from the bar. It was like playing to all the local drunks at Springwater. Marty said we could have done that at home. Jeez! Jacksonville, we hope, will be a lot better. I guess we just need to be grateful we had show. Right?

We got us a fair review by the guy that does Dusted Magazine's "Still Single". Here is the link and what Doug had to say: STILL SINGLE
Plodding Southern guitar/drums duo, going for some sort of big serious sound in a compact lineup – turns out this is what happened to Heathern Haints, who were also pretty interesting. Singer guy sounds like Michael Stipe, they get some big sounds and seem to will back slower music as it existed in the early ‘90s – maybe not Codeine or Idaho slow, but introspective in its volume and careful in its presentation. Definitely on the indie rock spectrum, and a fair release; this band sounds like they have the stuff to improve, and they can only do so as their confidence and skills ramp up. Nice looking record either way – yellow vinyl, two-colored silkscreen flat for the cover.

We have our records,finally,and are printing our little fingers to the bone trying to be ready when the tour begins on Saturday. The record and the tour are gonna be great. Can not wait to spread our PSOUNDS across the west. There will be plenty of eating, record shopping, coffee drinking and of course the slinging of sounds.
We also have a record release party on August 28th with Cloudland Canyon, Sparkling Wide Pressure and Black Static over at Open Lot. Hope you all can make it. Stay tuned to this here place for constant updates from the tour. There will be mighty a picture, treasure find and tall tale to read and see. Wish us a good journey and a safe return.

Just got our test presses back. Now we just have to okay 'em and we will have the 12" in our grubby hands. We are very excited about our new record and the coming tour-cation. We have several dates already in the book, but have yet to secure a few later on in August. Here are the dates, so if you could help. Let us know. Aug. 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25th. We will passing back through Phoenix or Tempe AZ, Amarillo TX and Little Rock AR or Memphis TN on these dates.

The Good News is. We got us a fabo review over at Agitated Atmosphere. This is what they had to say: Nashville duo Ttotals may not be of classic mold but their psychedelic and shoegaze influences permeate all 18 minutes of the band’s official debut, annimal skkulls. Release via Tennessee 3-inch specialists, Kimberly Dawn, the 4 songs that constitute annimal skkulls demonstrate the continued power of rock and roll. Granted, Ttotals rip asunder the old blueprint with a stoner cool and a punk aggression that any grizzled rock vet can appreciate but underneath the recognizable exterior lays a beast of an unidentifiable stripe. The lazy grind of “Portrait of a Man,” the sloppy grunge of “Take Care of Me,” and mathematical kraut of “Upon Some Action” are all comforting touchstones that also prove out as fantastical portals to territories left untouched by the history of rock; lands ready for the caress of Ttotals. You may have missed out on the album’s initial run but Ttotals promise a 12-inch vinyl release soon, so the opportunity to reacquaint yourself with your childhood punk (slightly skewed) is rapidly approaching. Prepare yourself before you’re run over by the Mack truck.

And now for the Bad news. Unfortunately Cloudland Canyon won't be joining us tomorrow night. They said their drummer had left them earlier this week and that they found a replacement, but have not worked up enough songs to be ready for the show on Saturday. So... We decided to ask a few friends to play with us. Square People and Cody Gaisser will be joining us tomorrow. Everybody come out and have fun and help us be merry pranksters.

Ttotals are a duo from Nashville, TN. "Annimal Skkulls" is their debut release, and on it they play rock music, utilizing basic elements like guitars and drums to make their sound. Don't let that fool you, though, because all sorts of delayed vocals, feedback, and snippets of sampler swirl around the interior of their strum-n-chug. The band's penchant for rocking out while simultaneously sounding pleasantly dazed and distant reminds me at times of Sic Alps, while their sense of cathartic release calls to mind bands like the Feelies or Polvo.

The disc blazes to life with "Take Care of Me", as a quick skirl of feedback is annihilated by drummer Marty's raucous kick-in. The band settles into a determined, swinging stomp behind soaring, THC-drenched vocals. A quick slowdown follows--both "String of Life" and "Portrait of ao Man" are spacious, murky, and shambolic, the delayed voice of singer Brian hovering over each song's trundling rhythms and wobbly guitars--enabling Ttotals to demonstrate their skill with slower material. Disc closer "Upon Some Action" brushes up against the edges of krautrock as it rolls off into the sunset, sounding like a meeting in the desert between Neu! and the Meat Puppets.

"Annimal Skkulls" is a tightly-woven debut, a warm analog broth of good songs and good playing. Another good release for a good label--see if you can find a copy before it goes away.

To bad they are all gone, but we have some good news on the horizon. This here little beauty will be available very soon as a 12". We just gotta get her into URP. We are expecting to have it out in time for our west coast tour in August. Which we must say that almost all the dates are in. We also have a couple of shows right around the corner. Saturday May 29th with Cloudland Canyon and 84001 at Betty's. Then on Thursday June 3 with 84001 and Pimlo at Little Hamilton. Both shows should not be missed.

We are planning a trek west this summer. And we are trying to get to this place in the picture above. AQUARIUS RECORDS is one of the great record stores I have shopped at but never in person, so I want to shop there and we want to play an instore there too. Hope we get to do those very things. We are also expected to get back in over at Battletapes to do some more recording at the end of the month for a 12" we hope to have out before we leave on tour.

We shook off some rust and brought back the rock. We were tight and heavy. Home Blitz also killed. A good night was had by all. So it's back to being a duo. Well... We think it's back to being a duo. It has been hard to find someone to believe in what we do just as much as us. There isn't any hard feelings or anything. We are just disappointed that we wasted some time and energy on people who were not into rock terminology. We speak in rock terms, so deal with it!!! There is some good news on the horizon. Our little cd will be coming out very soon on KIM DAWN RECORDINGS. It is going to be a fucking beast and will surround your brain with colors and feedback damage. Be on the lookout for a release show in the very near future.

Speaking of shows. We have a show coming up with Home Blitz and Deluxin at Lil Hamilton on March 24th. Should be a good time. We gotta get back in the saddle and throw down at some shows. We are both itching to get back to it. We have a whole summer of fun planned. And we will be back to tell everyone about it when the events and happenings take place. Bye for now.

I just received a really great message from Frank concerning our soon to be released E.P. The cover of Annimal Skkulls is just above and is a hand printed 2 color image of our own design. Frank told me that he is doing art, maybe a collage, for the backside and he is making a HAND SEWN CLOTH POUCH for everything to go in also!!! Fucking Amazing News!!! I can not wait to see all of this put together. We, Ttotals, are blown away by the efforts being put into our release. This year is getting off to a real bang!

Four LPs covering the entire process of jamming, recording, trimming and then finally, it was 1980, arriving at one of the best soundtracks ever to be recorded. All from a prison cell at Tracy Penitentiary and with a budget of only $3000. Beausoleil had to build the entire studio, instruments and all, from scratch. This is one of my favorite films also.

A Show and a Release

HAPPY NEW YEAR! We have an exciting show coming up on Jan.15th with our friends Goahead and our soon to be friends The Spooks from Philadelphia. This will all go down on the eastside at Dino's. We also have some more good news about our up coming release. I'm sure you remember me saying something about our friend Frank's label,KIM DAWN RECORDINGS, a few months back. Well, we finally got our shit together and we will have a limited 3"cdr release coming very shortly in the new year. We hope to have a few for the above mentioned show, but not sure if all the stars are gonna align for that to happen. I guess you will just have to show up and find out at the show. We have been working hard on the covers, which is another hand printed design. And also has a tentative name of Annimal Skkulls for it. All the songs were recorded over at Battletapes last spring when we were still a young and earnest duo. We will be venturing back over to Battletapes to do some more recording as a trio very soon. We don't want to let the cat outta the bag, but two thousand and ten is gonna be a fun and full year for us in this here band. We have big plans and big dreams to fulfill this year. Just hope we get to do everything we set out to do.

We have exciting news about a couple of ritual happenings and about a release. We have a show next Thursday Aug. 27th at Skyhouse with Jana Hunter and Lexie Mountain's "rock" band Crazy Dreams Band. It will be a fucking great show. Psych ritual starts at 9. We have a show with Blues Control at Dino's in November too. We also have been talking with our friend Frank about releasing a limited edition cdr through his label KIM DAWN RECORDINGS. We have been kicking around the idea of a live recording next week at the show or maybe in our space AmbrCave. We also finished up recording with Jeremy, but we can not decide what to do with the songs. Release them ourselves? Or... We have finished up recording over at Battletapes. Thanks Jeremy. It is always a pleasure working with you. Always transparent and letting the songs be what they are. Capturing the sounds when both Marty and I step in the room and play together. Very much appreciated.
We put down some very good sounds and are now fine tuning the mixes. We will probably be dropping them off soon at United Record Press. Another 12" will be born and we will turn it loose on the world. And spread our since of community and friendship where ever we can.

We are headed over to Battletapes tomorrow to start recording. Hope it turns out well. It should. We have poured a lot of time, sweat and thought into the songs. We should have the sounds up soon for everybody to have a listen and we will be playing more shows also. We just want to have another recording for everybody that would be interested and have reasons to spread our community more and more. There has even been discussion of a WEST COAST tour. More on that as we talk with SELVIG and it all comes together. But first we need to concentrate on the recording and playing a few shows here in the East. Our Hands Are Lightning

We have some explaining to do on why we've been away for so long. Short story is... We were getting our shit together. Slinging sounds around and getting our heads in the right place. Sometimes that is so hard to do. Especially after 4 or 5 hard months of just plain ole living and trying to make ends meet. In these past few months. We tried out a couple of different playas, but to no avail. They just didn't seem right. Personalities clashed, we are some smart-asses, and flakes flaked. Then we tried out "The Peev" and it was like an old friend coming back home. Which it was. Some people will be surprised, but this was a natural progression for us former Heathern Hainters. Some heavy psych noise is on its way out into the world.

Which all this brings us to our debut show. We will be playing at Sky House on June 7th with our friend Ancient Ocean. We are really excited to play with him as he tours in support of the split 12" single with our other friends 84001. Can not wait to hear it. We hope to see everyone at the show and stay tuned. We will have some sounds soon. We just haven't had the time to record yet, but we hope to have that rectified. And you know what that means. Another 12" will be brought into the world. Hold your friends close because they will always be there to support you. Stay positive in these trying times.
